A rape and sexual harassment case has been filed against Rajarajeshwari Nagar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Munirathna, according to a report by ANI on Thursday (September 19).

The case was registered at Kaggalipura police station in Ramanagara district, based on a complaint alleging the incident occurred at a private resort within the police station’s jurisdiction.

The FIR names seven individuals, including MLA Munirathna, with charges filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (voyeurism), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult), 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 149 (unlawful assembly), 384 (extortion), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), The Times of India reported.

The others implicated in the case are Vijay Kumar, Sudhakara, Kiran Kumar, Lohit Gowda, Manjunath, and Loki.

Munirathna is currently in the custody of Bengaluru police, facing accusations of threatening a contractor.

His bail application is set to be heard today by the Special Court for People's Representatives. If bail is granted, he may be detained upon release; otherwise, the Kaggalipura police will execute a warrant to take him into custody.

Additionally, Munirathna faces allegations of casteist abuse. An audio clip has surfaced online, purportedly featuring the MLA using abusive language and threatening a Dalit contractor and his wife.
