A fresh attack by suspected militants took place in Mongbung Meitei village in Manipur's Jiribam district, the police said on Wednesday (September 18), news agency PTI reported.
The assailants opened fire with sophisticated weapons around 7 pm, prompting a counter-response from local village volunteers. No injuries were reported during the exchange of gunfire.
Security forces were quickly deployed to the area, and the firing ceased around 8 pm.
Authorities are currently monitoring the situation and have requested that local residents cooperate with security personnel during ongoing operations, reported PTI.
In recent days, villagers have reported sightings of multiple drones flying over Mongbung Meitei.
Additionally, during search operations in the nearby Chanung and C Zoulen villages in Imphal East district, security forces recovered a locally made single-barrel weapon, an SLR magazine, and live ammunition on Monday, as stated in a police release.
