Yamini Krishnamurthy, the esteemed doyenne of the Bharatanatyam dance form, passed away at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday (August 3), at the age of 84. Krishnamurthy is survived by her two sisters.

Krishnamurthy's manager and secretary, Ganesh informed news agency PTI that she had been dealing with age-related health problems and had been in the ICU for the past seven months.

Her body will be transported to her institute, the Yamini School of Dance, at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The arrangements for her last rites are still to be finalized.

Yamini Krishnamurthy was a renowned Indian classical dancer, celebrated for her expertise in both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. In 2016, she was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award.

For many years, she was a towering figure in the world of dance. Her performances were acclaimed for their meticulous technical skill, profound expressiveness, and deep cultural significance, earning her a place as a prominent representative of Indian classical dance worldwide.
