A Kerala court issued non-bailable warrants against Baba Ramdev and his associate Acharya Balakrishna on Saturday (February 1), after they failed to appear for a hearing in a criminal case filed by the Kerala Drugs Inspector against Divya Pharmacy over alleged misleading medical advertisements.
According to Live Law, the warrants were issued to ensure their presence in court on February 15.
Earlier, the Judicial First Class Magistrate-II, Palakkad, had issued bailable warrants summoning Ramdev and Balakrishna for the February 1 hearing, but they did not comply.
The case was filed under Sections 3, 3(b), and 3(d) of The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits advertisements claiming to cure certain diseases and disorders.
Divya Pharmacy is the primary accused, with Balakrishna listed as the second accused and Ramdev as the third.
The complaint pertains to advertisements promoting Patanjali Ayurved products with claims of curing ailments such as high blood pressure and diabetes—claims that are prohibited under the DMR Act.
