Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, the co founders of Patanjali Ayurved have offered "unconditional" apologies, regarding misleading advertisements through an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court.
The duo, in their affidavits filed before the apex court, have stated that they undertake to always uphold the majesty of law and justice, adding that they would not make any public statements which may amount to a breach of the undertaking given to the Supreme Court in November last year.
According to Live Law, the affidavit containing the apology was filed on Saturday (April 6). The matter will now be taken up tomorrow.
The contempt case arose out of a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association against Patanjali's advertisements attacking allopathy and making claims about curing certain diseases. On the top Court's reprimand, Patanjali had assured last November that it would refrain from such advertisements.
Patanjali had earlier assured the top court that it would not make any casual statements claiming the medicinal efficacy of its products or advertise or brand them in violation of law and would not release any statement against any system of medicine to the media in any form.
In the previous hearing, a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah declined to accept Patanjali’s contention that its media department was not aware of the SC undertaking and rebuked Ramdev and Balkrishna for filing improper versions of affidavits.
