At least 18 people were killed when a Saurya Airlines aircraft crashed during takeoff at Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Wednesday (July 24), news agency PTI reported.
Nineteen people, including the aircrew, were on board the Pokhara-bound plane when it met with the accident around 11 am, as reported by Premnath Thakur, spokesperson for TIA, The Kathmandu Post reported.
The aircraft was being taken to Pokhara Regional Airport for maintenance purposes.
Police and firefighters are currently conducting rescue operations at the site of the accident.
According to a security official stationed at the airport, the pilot of the plane, 37-year-old Manish Shakya, was rescued from the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital in Sinamangal for treatment.
