The Union government had recently informed Parliament that there are up to 17,625 vacant positions under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, including in its institutions, agencies, and autonomous bodies, news agency Press Trust of India reported.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (July 30), Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya reported that in 2014, the total number of permanent and temporary posts under the Ministry, including its institutions, agencies, and autonomous bodies, was 45,915 and 19, respectively.
In 2024, the minister informed that the same were 48,555 and 8, respectively.
"No person has been re-employed after retirement from service in the last five years. The number of posts lying vacant under the Ministry including institutions, agencies and autonomous bodies is 17,625," PTI quoted her saying.
